Let's start from a dialogue taken from Episode 22... "Time stopped for me thirteen years ago... |
| The ringleader, who named himself Gargoyle, remade the Taltesos Kingdom into the Neo-Atlantean Empire. He supported the new emperor, Neo and planned to restore the Tower of Babel, sealed since ancient times. The Tower of Babel, with all its seals removed, reverted to its original form and Gargoyle tested its ability as a powerful destructive weapon in front of everyone. | ![]() |

That was when... That was when the tragedy happened. Light ran over the face of the Earth and the wrath of fire and wind assaulted us for seven days. It was like a\nsea of fire... And then the anger of\nthe earth and water swallowed everything...One hell followed on the heels of another... There wasn't a city there anymore. |
|
My little brother died, too...I first met another living
soul after the second time I fell asleep. That person... I was so grateful to the man who saved me... |

But then I found out... [she finds out it was Nemo who destroyed the Tower of Babel and so Thartesos] I hated you. |
I was glad that you loved me, even if it was only in place of your daughter. I was happy if I could be with you...That's right...Your daughter...
Until your daughter, Nadia, showed up ! I was afraid. I was afraid that she would steal your heart.
[She learns Nemo didn't want to self-destruct because she was there]
I guess I can't shoot you now...I'll use the last
bullet on myself. You can have back that life you saved."
In Episode 22 we have so a first-person tale of Elektra's first breakthru moment, after 9 years of peaceful living in Thartesos (if she's 22 in 1889 and everything happened 13 years before, is 1876 she was 9 yrs old).
Since 1876, she started, together with Nemo and 2 other people who'll be members of the Nautilus crew, her trip to fight Gargoyle and his empire...Everything is going "fine", till a sunny day in which they save a nice trio of shipwrecked people: a boy, a girl and a SO cool lion...JJ

We'll see more about psychology later... |
- UP -
There's not so much to say about this
period, supposing that she doesn't appear in "The secret of
Fuzzy", as well as her child, Marie, King etc etc. We have
just a note by Marie in 1902...
"...and I hear that Electra is doing fine raising her child on her own."
...nothing more. Unfortunately for you, you can't read my fan fictions (they're in Italian only) 'cos I explain what happened between 1891 and 1901 quite well... JJJ

Elektra's psychology is quite complex to explain, even if there are a lot of useful elements to do that...
PAST:
She had a really, really difficult childhood, supposing she had
to face death since she was just a little girl (9 years old),
losing, at the same time, her family (what about that dramatic
scene in which she tries to raise her brother's body and one of
his arms falls to the ground?), her fellow-citizens and her
entire homeland.
As she says, she found in Nemo, first, a father's figure and, then, somebody to love. But everything seems to break down once she listen his speech with the engineer, knowing what really was the cause of Thartesos destruction. This event is so powerful and unexpected to change his character: first she hates Nemo, thinking to all those dozens of people who died due to his suicidal action; then, she understands why he had to destroy the Tower of Babel ("If you hadn't, Gargoyle probably would have destroyed the world...") and, then, she finally finds her final target: kill Gargoyle, destroying NeoAtlantis.
An interesting note which I've found in Brazil's Elektra Page (see below) and that I consider worth talking about. You probaly know what the Oedipus's complex is, right? If you totally ignore what the hell it is, J, in a few words it's a sexual, inconscious (and unhealthily) desire by a guy for his own mother and a hate for his own father, described by Sigmund Freud. There's also the famale version of this complex, called "Elektra's complex"...Is it a coincidence, or there's a kind of connection between it and Elektra's love for Nemo, considered as a "acquired" father?
PRESENT:
When Nadia enters inside Elektra's life, as she says in that dramatic monologue
I've mentioned above, her psychology enters in another dangerous moment: "I
was afraid. I was afraid that she would steal your heart.", even if
Nemo's feeling for Elektra is, at the moment, just the one a father can feel
for a daughter. Her first fears are initially driven away by Nemo: "...you
never told her that you're her father" she says, but once he denies
the self destruction to kill Gargoyle and his aerial fortress, Elektra's fears
become reality, even if Nemo will tell her later that she (and not Nadia) was
the reason of that decision.

Elektra reaches the top of her psychological development paradoxally in Episode 22, when she's alone with Nemo inside the main room of Nautilus. A series of conflicting feelings guide her aim, especially the desire of knowing all the truth about that awful day, 13 years before. Now that she knows the real reason of Nemo's actions, she tries to kill herself with the last bullet of the gun, but Nemo saves her before it's too late: crying and crying, she finally becomes another Elektra, the one we'll find later in the series, the one with short hair and a H__H white space suit J |
FUTURE:
After Gargoyle is defeated, Elektra has reached her original
target, even if she lost her lover. That's why all she can do is
raising the only relative left, her child. Supposing that a bad
chapter of her life is finally closed, maybe she returns to call
herself with her original name, "Medina", the one she
used before Thartesos was destroyed, when she lived peacefully
with her parents & relatives.

Mmm...I guess there aren't addictional notes about Elektra. I mean, apart her past (which I tried to reconstruct), a lot of things about her are well explained, episode by episode. If you have any doubt, or you just want to tell me how awful is my English, let me know. JJ
Another thing: supposing I'm not that kind of guy which copy parts of other sites, I consuel to visit Brazil's Elektra site for better informations (not featured here), including info about her name and so on. See my links page for the URL.
